About the Service

This MPEG-7 validation service is provided and maintained by Wo Chang at NIST.
The service validates the conformance of MPEG-7 syntactic (and semantic later)
according to the following schema specifications:

Mpeg7-2001.xsd - MPEG-7 wrapper
Part 2: DDL¹, ISO/IEC 15938-2 (ddl-2001.xsd, ddlExamples.zip)
Part 3: Visual, ISO/IEC 15938-3 (visual-2001.xsd, visualExamples.zip)
Part 4: Audio, ISO/IEC 15938-4 (audio-2001.xsd, audioExamples.zip)
Part 5: MDS², ISO/IEC 15938-5 (mds-2001.xsd, descriptionExamples.zip 240KB)
W3C 1998 XML Namespace (xml-1998.xsd)
Part 11:Profile Schema, ISO/IEC 15938-11
- Simple Metadata Profile: mpeg7-smp-2004.xsd
- User Description Profile: mpeg7-udp-2004.xsd
- Core Description Profile: mpeg7-cdp-2004.xsd

MPEG-7 Metadata Header

All MPEG-7 metadata should have the following header information:

Caveats:

With the combination of M7V validator and Xerces-J SAX parser, this services currently has the
following caveats (we will try to fix them best we can and early as possible):

cannot handle "xml:lang" properly, these errors (if any) are disable for now.
cannot handle 2^32 (4294967296) for maxOccurs, therefore, audio-2001.xsd
element "Token" for WordLexiconType used "unbounded" for now.
use only "Mpeg7-2001.xsd" (without "./" or ".\" at front) for xsi:schemaLocation for now.
due to lack of system resources, the following visual-2001.xsd elements
are now changed from maxOccurs="65535":
- element KeyValue: to maxOccurs="2000" (crash if > 2800)
- element IntegratedCoordinateSystem: to "unbounded" (crash if > 8000)
- element GridLayoutType: to "unbounded"
